Plenary Session:Renewal of the EU-India Agreement for scientific and technological cooperation
Renewal of the EU-India Agreement for scientific and technological cooperation (A9-0096/2020 - Cristian-Silviu Buşoi)
I voted in favour because, although there is room for improvement regarding the implementation of the Agreement, as pointed out by the European Commission's assessment, the renewal of the Agreement, by providing a legal framework for political dialogue for continuous exchanges, clarifies and upgrades cooperation modalities based on the field of Science and Technology with India. In addition, maintaining cooperation with scientists and other community professionals gives a positive political signal between political blocs.
This is a bilateral agreement that defines and implements multiannual roadmaps for cooperation in the field of research and innovation (R&I). Forms of cooperation include joint projects, pooling of resources, exchange of research specialists and technicians, joint and exchange conferences, concerted action for the dissemination of results, exchange and sharing of information, resources and equipment.
The Science and Technology agreement entered into force for the first time in 2002 and has since been renewed twice every five years, in 2009 and 2015. Since the current agreement will expire on 17 May 2020, the Council has proposed a renewal for an additional period of five years. The substance of the renewed Contract is identical to the current one.
