Plenary Session: Implementing and monitoring the provisions on citizens’ rights in the Withdrawal Agreement
Implementing and monitoring the provisions on citizens’ rights in the Withdrawal Agreement (B9-0031/2020)
I voted in favour of this resolution, in line with the Group of the Greens, because I believe it is essential that the European Union and the United Kingdom put into practice, as a matter of priority, the aspects of the Withdrawal Agreement relating to citizens and their rights.
In particular, I express my concern about the contradictory announcements by the British authorities about the rights of EU citizens residing in the country, especially with regard to the application of the EU citizen registration system. This situation creates unnecessary uncertainty and anxiety for those affected.
At the time of departure (Brexit), we also ask that all EU-27 citizens legally residing in the United Kingdom and citizens of the UK legally residing in an EU-27 Member State, as well as members of their families, have all the rights set out in the Withdrawal Agreement, as enshrined in EU law.
