Parliament adopts resolution on anti-racism protests following the death of George Floyd
Brussels, 19 June 2020 - The European Parliament today adopted a resolution on the anti-racism protests following the assassination of George Floyd.
The inter-group resolution, which was made under pressure from the Greens/European Free Alliance (Greens/EFA) group, condemns the assassination of George Floyd and the use of force against Black Lives Matter protesters in the United States of America (USA) and in the European Union (EU).
"The European Parliament must strongly condemn the appalling death of George Floyd and the repression of peaceful US demonstrators and the press. This resolution is a first step in that direction," said MEP Francisco Guerreiro.
The resolution also calls on the EU institutions to take action to end structural racism and discrimination in Europe and offers some concrete recommendations, such as the creation of an EU Police Code of Ethics, to end the racial and ethnic profiling by police officers and police authorities.
