Europe moves towards political transformation of chemicals
Brussels, 14 October 2020 - Today, the European Commission presented its Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability. This is a step in the right direction for a chemical revolution in Europe, which can provide a framework for a more sustainable, clean, and competitive chemical industry.
The Strategy proposes an ecological innovation attack plan for the chemical industry, in order to remain economically strong in the future. Despite the progress achieved in the last few decades, many dangerous chemicals are still present in daily use products (such as toys, cosmetics, textiles, leather and food packages), like endocrine disrupters, that are suspected of being carcinogenic and causing infertility. Studies on endocrine disrupters like bisphenol-A suggest that they hinder children’s health.
