Prospects for a two-state solution for Israel and Palestine - Motions for resolutions
I voted in favor of the European Parliament resolution on the prospects for a two-state solution for Israel and Palestine. Parliament reiterates its unequivocal support for a negotiated two-state solution, based on the 1967 borders, according to which two sovereign and democratic states would coexist in peace and with guaranteed security, with Jerusalem as the capital of both states, and in full compliance with international law.
The resolution calls for an end to the protracted Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the occupation of Palestinian territories through the resumption of genuine peace talks between the two parties. The settlements are illegal under international law, Parliament calls for an immediate end to their construction and stresses that recent decisions to create new settlements further jeopardize the prospects of a viable two-state solution. Parliament therefore calls on the EU to launch a European peace initiative, with the aim of re-establishing a political horizon for a just, comprehensive and lasting peace between Israel and Palestine.
