Plenary Session: The future of European education in the context of Covid-19
The future of European education in the context of Covid-19 (B9-0338/2020)
I voted in favour of this resolution, as it contains appropriate responses to the greatest and most serious disturbance we can recall in the educational system, originated by the pandemic, which had immeasurable repercussions on the learning of millions of students, something that will have a negative impact on their training progress, as well as their future incomes and productivity indices, a phenomenon that will ultimately affect the Union's competitiveness and labour market.
Although we believe that the report could be complemented by placing greater emphasis on education technology as a support for personal education after the pandemic and the relevance of education developed in the mother tongue, it contains fundamental premises, such as the central role of education in the green and digital transition; the importance of face-to-face learning in the teaching process; the recognition of the existence of inequalities in access to education, of vulnerabilities in the most disadvantaged groups and of solutions provided by the institutions in case of a second lockdown; the primordiality of teacher-student interaction in the students' learning, well-being and training process; the need to give greater recognition to teaching professionals; and finally, the vitality of the social role played by schools and other educational establishments.
