Plenary Session: Control of the financial activities of the European Investment Bank
Control of the financial activities of the European Investment Bank - annual report 2018 (A9-0118/2020 - Bas Eickhout)
I voted in favour of this annual report from the European Investment Bank because it contains excellent messages and recommendations for the EIB’s key action of combating the post-COVID crisis and in transitioning to a greener European economy that is better prepared for future challenges.
The EIB has accepted the challenge of being a Climate Bank. This commitment must be implemented in a timely manner and cannot be overlooked in an attempt to mitigate the effects of the pandemic.
The green transition must be at the heart of the recovery and, given the EIB's strengthened role in this process and its visible work with financing the fight against climate change, this objective is likely to be achieved.
The report provides clear indications on what we especifically hope for and also calls for an increase in transparency and control measures with regard to the defense of human rights.
