Mobilization of the European Globalization Adjustment Fund: application EGF/2022/003 ES/Alu Ibérica - Spain
Strasbourg, 9 May 2023 - The European Globalization Adjustment Fund aims to show solidarity and promote decent and sustainable employment in the Union by providing support to workers who have lost their jobs because of major restructuring events.
The funds from this process go to the people who have lost their jobs and not to the companies.
I voted in favor of this report, which aims to provide support for 303 workers who have lost their jobs in the case of Alu Ibérica.
The reason for these job losses was the loss of competitiveness resulting from the increase in energy prices and natural resources such as magnesium, coupled with the decline in global aluminum prices resulting from the large production in China. These factors combined to lead to the bankruptcy of Alu Ibérica.
