MEPs send letter to Zelensky in support of equal marriage rights in Ukraine

Brussels, July 20, 2023 - Several MEPs, including Francisco Guerreiro, sent a letter in support of equal marriage rights in Ukraine to President Zelensky, President Stefanchuk and members of the legal affairs committee in Ukraine.

“We are writing to express our strong support for our esteemed colleague, Inna Sovsun, a member of the Verkhovna Rada, in her efforts to promote equal rights in marriage in Ukraine. Attached is a letter signed by 41 members of the European Parliament outlining the details of their bill for gender-neutral civil partnerships, aimed at providing same-sex couples with legal recognition and protection.

Passage of this bill would not only demonstrate Ukraine's commitment to equality and its EU accession negotiations, but would also counter the anti-liberal ideology that fueled Russia's aggression. We call on responsible legislators at all levels to contribute their support to help ensure the bill's success.”
