MEPs concerned over human rights in Tibet
Brussels, 3 November 2020- After reading the Jamestown Foundation report, several MEPs questioned the European Commission about labour camps where Tibetans are forced to participate, in an action the Chinese government sees as part of a ‘re-education system'.
MEPs recall the Xinjiang camps, which became a worldwide matter of forced labour, and call on the EC not to forget the atrocities that might be being committed and to take due action. A concern that had already been expressed by Dr. Lobsang Sangay, president of the Tibetan-government-in-exile.
A request was sent to the European Commission, signed among others by MEP Francisco Guerreiro (Greens/EFA).
