MEPs call on diplomatic urgency for youths detained in China
Brussels, 27 October 2020 - Several MEPs call on diplomatic urgency for 12 youths from Hong Kong detained in China.
The MEPs consider that ‘if the authorities are allowed to prosecute and arrest Hong Kong activists on Continental China, with no response from the international community, Beijing will take that as a sign that it can use the National Security Act as a pretext to extradite other activists'.
The letter was sent to the Vice-President of the European Commission and High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and signed, among others, by MEP Francisco Guerreiro.
