MEPs call for urgent measures to help Moldova face any potential threat from the Kremlin

Brussels, February 21, 2023 - Several MEPs, including Francisco Guerreiro have sent a letter to the European Commission asking for urgent measures to help Moldova face any potential threat from the Kremlin, following statements by the President of Moldova. 

Moldovan President Maia Sandu publicly stated on the morning of February 13 that Russia is planning a coup in Moldova, a plot by Moscow to use mercenaries trained by the military of the Russian Federation, Belarus, Serbia and Montenegro to overthrow the country's government.
President Sandu's briefing comes a few days after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine had intercepted plans developed by Russian secret services to destroy Moldova, allegations later confirmed by Moldovan intelligence officials.
