Management, conservation and control measures in the area covered by the Southern Indian Ocean Fisheries Agreement (SIOFA)

Strasbourg, July 10, 2023 - I voted against the report on the proposal for a regulation laying down management, conservation and control measures applicable in the area covered by the Southern Indian Ocean Fisheries Agreement (SIOFA). This report concerns the transposition into Community law of the provisions relating to EU fleets fishing in the Southern Indian Ocean. Following several identical amendments introduced by the Committee on Fisheries (PECH) in three similar previous reports, the European Parliament decided to reject this Commission proposal in order to force the Commission to present an updated proposal, in line with the amendments adopted in the previous reports, preventing PECH from doing so again
