Intergroup on LGBTI Rights want to ban 'conversion therapy' in Europe
Brussels, 10 October 2020 – Under the initiative of the European Parliament’s Intergroup on LGBTI Rights, MEP Francisco Guerreiro (Greens/EFA) signed a letter about the need to ban “conversion therapy“ in the European Union.
Addressed to European Commission’s Vice-President Jourová and Commissioners Dalli and Kyriakides, the letter reminds that the European Parliament has called twice on Member States to adopt legislation to ban “conversion therapy“ practices (both in the 2017 EU fundamental rights report and the recent resolution on Article 7 concerning Poland) and to criminalise them.
“This call is all the more pressing when, as recognised in the recent European Parliament resolution on Article 7 concerning Poland, the Polish Episcopate recently endorsed the idea of “conversion camps” in Poland for LGBT persons,” the MEPs wrote.
