Intensive octopus farming: MEPs send a letter to the governor of the Canary Islands

Brussels, May 3, 2023 - On the initiative of Francisco Guerreiro MEP and with the support of more than 30 MEPs, a letter was sent to the governor of the Canary Islands expressing concern about plans to open the world's first intensive octopus farm, located in Spain.

“These plans, belonging to the multinational Nueva Pescanova, contradict the goals set out in the European Green Deal, which aims to guide EU plans to promote a shift in the food system towards a more sustainable paradigm with greater respect for animal welfare,” explains Francisco Guerreiro MEP on his social networks

The MEPs call on the Canarian government to reject the plan to build this intensive industrial octopus farm.
