Implementation of the regulation establishing measures for the recovery of the stock of European eel

I abstained from voting on the report on the implementation of the Regulation establishing measures for the recovery of the stock of European eel. The aim of this own-initiative report was to establish that the protection of the European eel stock would not require stricter measures than those laid down in a 2007 regulation. We (the Green Group) improved the report as much as possible, highlighting the clear scientific data describing its state of vulnerability, and we tried to improve the report further through some amendments in plenary. In particular, we tabled an amendment clarifying and underlining the clear and persistent scientific advice calling for eels not to be caught anywhere, for any purpose, including restocking. Unfortunately, this and the other amendments were rejected.
