Greens/EFA proposal to create Eurobonds rejected
Brussels, 17 April 2020- The European Parliament today missed a decisive opportunity to support the creation of Eurobonds to promote economic and social recovery in a more supportive manner in Europe.
The Greens/EFA amendment proposal was rejected by 326 votes against (right and liberals), receiving 282 votes in favor, with 74 abstentions (only the 6 MEPs of PSD voted against).
In the resolution, there was a mention to Recovery Bonds that are not a real tool for mutualising debt and are restricted to the next Multiannual Financial Framework (2021-2027). The real mutualisation of the debt was once again paused, while political will is nowhere to be seen.
