Greens/EFA alert that Commission plans will not prevent another Moria disaster
Brussels, 23 September 2020– The European Commission has just released its proposed new Migration Pact, which is supposed to create a new balance between responsibility and solidarity.
The Greens/EFA alert that the European Commission plans do not take into account the position of the European Parliament of 2017 on the reform of the Dublin system and a fair distribution of refugees in the EU Member States, which emphasised and safeguarded the principle of common responsibility and should serve as a base for upcoming inter-institutional negotiations.
Last week, the Moria refugee camp was practically destroyed by a fire. Thousands of migrants fled the fire and blocked the roads. European authorities are seeking solutions for these almost 13 thousand people living on this facility in the Greek island of Lesvos.
