Francisco Guerreiro signs call to protect Romani community in the EU
Lisbon, 8 April 2020 – The MEP Francisco Guerreiro (PAN) signed a letter calling for the protection of the Romani community, particularly affected by the Covid-19 crisis.
Taking into account the great precariousness of the community, a group os MEPs signed a letter to the President of the European Commission calling on the Member States to ensure access to food, drinking water, protective equipment and health care services to Romani people living in poverty and isolated communities.
It also asks the Commission to call on Member States to immediately stop all discriminatory measures against people with Romani background.
At stake is the fact that Romani communities often don’t have access to clean water, which doesn’t allow for complying with basic measurements to slow down the spread of the virus, as well as unequal access to health services.
