Francisco Guerreiro MEP questions Commission on nutritional labeling on packaging for disabled citizens

Brussels, March 14, 2023 - Francisco Guerreiro MEP asked Commissioner Stella Kyriakides about front-of-pack nutrition labeling systems for disabled citizens.

Subject: Front-of-pack nutrition labeling systems for disabled citizens
A scientific analysis of labelling systems and their effects on consumers and food business operators has reaffirmed the Commission's intention to harmonize front-of-pack (FOP) nutrition labelling systems in the coming months. With this in mind, and taking into account the harmonization of FOP mentioned in the “farm to fork” strategy:

1. does the Commission's impact assessment take into account the needs of all citizens, especially visually impaired citizens?
2. Will the proposal to harmonize front-of-pack nutrition labelling systems include mandatory braille labelling on all products, in order to ensure clear and easy access to information for visually impaired citizens?
