European Union geographical indications for wine, spirits and agricultural products
Brussels, June 1, 2023 - The system of Geographical Indications (GIs) can be a tool to promote short local and regional food supply chains, support farmers' incomes and now integrate environmental and social improvements for consumers. The contribution to rural development must take priority over the use of GIs as commercial tools. One of the most relevant updates provided by this report is the fact that producers can include their sustainability initiatives in the definition of their GI.
