EU-Japan relations

I voted in favor of this own-initiative report on EU-Japan relations, which analyses the state of play of relations between the European Union and Japan, including the implementation of the Strategic Partnership Agreement. It also aims to analyze and assess the opportunities for deeper cooperation, particularly with regard to foreign and security policy, but also to people-to-people cooperation, social concerns, research collaboration or connectivity. The report addresses various dimensions of relations, both bilaterally and multilaterally.


In the context of Japan's G7 Presidency, cooperation between the EU and Japan has been excellent. Given the current geopolitical environment, we welcome Japan's constructive role in the Indo-Pacific region, as well as its unwavering support for Ukraine. We believe that the EU can learn from Japan's economic security. At the same time, our relations can be improved environmentally, notably through the EU-Japan Green Alliance.
