EU action plan: protecting and restoring marine ecosystems for sustainable and resilient fisheries
I voted against the report on the “EU action plan: protecting and restoring marine ecosystems for sustainable and resilient fisheries”. The report attacks and rejects the Commission's Action Plan calling on Member States to protect marine ecosystems on the basis of existing legislation, despite clear scientific and institutional reports indicating that the state of conservation of the EU's marine ecosystems is worrying.
We tried to improve the report by removing and correcting false claims; highlighting numerous international reports on the state of marine biodiversity and underlining that only healthy oceans can provide long-term economic prosperity for fishermen. Unfortunately, only a few of our amendments were adopted and the overall negative character and misleading statements remain.
