Establishment of the Union's Secure Connectivity program for the period 2023-2027

I voted in favor of the report on the proposal for a regulation establishing the Union's Secure Connectivity Programme for the period 2023-2027, which defines the objectives and rules applicable to the activities of the programme, the infrastructures and services, the budget for the period 2023-2027, the forms of EU funding and the rules for granting such funding, as well as the rules for implementing the program.The IRISS Satellite Constellation is an EU program, offering greater communication capabilities to government users and businesses and ensuring high-speed internet broadband to deal with areas without connectivity. IRISS will provide benefits for European institutions and citizens by providing stable satellite communications. The proposal also ensures that strategically important “slots” in orbit are not only occupied by private mega-constellations.For the first time in the EU's legislative files on space activities, and thanks to the Group of the Greens, a new article has been included on the sustainability of the program's activities, including launches and satellites. This inclusion of provisions on the sustainability of space activities is a milestone towards better regulation of space activities and a first step towards a Space Act.
