Developing an EU cycling strategy
European cycling data with the aim of doubling the number of kilometers cycled in Europe by 2030. It also calls on the Commission to ensure the harmonized collection of data on cycling, including industrial data.
It also calls on the Commission to designate 2024 as the European Year of Cycling. Furthermore, it calls on the Commission and the Member States to support the production of “Made in Europe” bicycles and components, thus stimulating the competitiveness of EU industry.
Finally, it calls for the promotion of bimodal 'bike-train' synergies, among other things by making more bicycle spaces available on trains and providing more secure bicycle parking areas at stations and mobility centers. It also stresses that urban infrastructure planning should be developed in accordance with EU road safety legislation, including cycling safety standards. Furthermore, it stresses that cycle tourism and cycling in rural areas should be supported by accelerating the development of the EuroVelo network and its 17 routes, notably by ensuring stronger support and exploiting synergies with the TEN-T network.
