Designing online services in a way that creates dependency and consumer protection in the EU single market
I voted in favor of the report on the design of online services to create dependency and consumer protection in the EU single market.
In recent years, the EU has successfully introduced a large number of digital laws, thus addressing many of the emerging issues related to information and communication technologies. However, especially in the area of consumer protection, some issues remain unresolved and create a growing problem both inside and outside the EU: one of them is the lack of legislative action against online addiction.
The own-initiative report addressed this issue, detailing how digital addiction continues to increase among young people and adults, the effects it has on mental health and, in some cases, even brain function, and how the issue requires an urgent response from the Commission. The text also makes clear recommendations on how to fight digital addiction.
