Deforestation Regulation
Strasbourg, April 19, 2023 - On November 17, 2021, the European Commission presented a legislative proposal aimed at curbing deforestation and forest degradation driven by the expansion of agricultural land used for the production of specific products, namely animals, cocoa, coffee, palm oil, soy and timber.
Following a 2020 European Parliament resolution calling for regulatory action to combat global deforestation caused by the EU, the proposal would impose due diligence obligations on operators who place these commodities and some derived products on the EU market or export them from the EU.
The proposal has now been voted on in the EP and I voted in favor of it.
