Companies' duty of care with regard to sustainability
Brussels, June 1, 2023 - Today, only 37% of companies carry out environmental and human rights due diligence, mostly on the basis of voluntary international frameworks and standards. It is a long-standing demand of our group, Greens/EFA, that UNGPs be included in binding EU human rights due diligence legislation to ensure that human rights and sustainability are fully integrated with companies' business policies and activities. Companies must be held accountable when they harm or contribute to harming human rights, the environment and good governance. They must identify and assess their impacts, publish the data and take measures to prevent adverse impacts.
I voted in favor.
