Amendment of Directive 2008/98/EC on waste
This Directive paves the way for Europe to finally take food waste seriously. After inaction for decades, it's time to stop throwing away valuable food. With new legally binding waste reduction targets, Member States, producers, retailers, restaurants and families will be responsible for making better use of the food we produce. Almost 10 years after the adoption of the UN SDGs, we are taking a big and long-awaited step towards achieving SDG 12.3 on reducing food waste
The Directive addresses 'fast fashion': producers will have to pay for their waste. In the future, we hope they will produce longer-lasting products. We end the export of textile waste under the guise of reuse. Europe will take responsibility for the textile waste we produce.
I voted in favor.
