Israel/Palestine: Greens/EFA call on all actors to work for lasting peace

Brussels, October 20, 2023 - In the plenary session, the European Parliament debated Hamas' terrorist attacks against Israel and the humanitarian situation in Gaza.
Greens/EFA MEP Jordi Solé is the lead negotiator on this dossier: “The Greens/EFA Group strongly condemns the horrific attacks perpetrated by the terrorist organization Hamas. Civilians should never be targeted. Palestinian civilians should not pay for Hamas' war crimes. Israel has the right to defend itself and must do so in strict accordance with international law.”
Greens/EFA co-chair Philippe Lamberts added: “The EU must use all means at its disposal to seek, in coordination with international partners, de-escalation and a peaceful resolution to this conflict. Palestinian civilians should not have to pay for Hamas' actions.” Hamas attacks are not a reason to withdraw or suspend European development and humanitarian aid. The use of indiscriminate violence and terrorism must end. ”
