Francisco Guerreiro organizes webinar on corruption in CAP with New York Times journalist
Lisbon, 4 June 2020 - MEP Francisco Guerreiro (PAN) today organized, along with other MEPs, an online conference with Matt Apuzzo, journalist for The New York Times and double winner of the Pulitzer Prize, whose recent investigations revealed diversions of funds from the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) to finance land grabbing by certain economic groups and to strengthen groups loyal to populist regimes.
Under the motto “Corruption and CAP: how to ensure transparency?", the webinar featured Alex Brennikmeijer, member of the European Court of Auditors, MEPs Clotilde Armand (Renew), Benoît Biteau (Greens/EFA), and Lara Wolters (S&D), and Médiapart journalist Amélie Poinssot.
The event made it possible to unveil the current dysfunctional situation in the CAP fund allocation system, namely through Matt Apuzzo's investigations, and solutions were put forward to respond to this mismanagement of EU funds.
