Remo News: 'MEP Francisco Guerreiro ex-PAN will join Volt'
The election of the new management of Volt Europa, Francesca Romana D’Antuono and Renier van Lanscho as European co-presidents, took place in the general assembly, Saturday and today, at the Lisbon Congress Center, in the presence of about 500 members and, with digital, about 18,000 more, the organization added in a statement.
In addition to the co-presidents, Anouk Ooms, Lucia Nass, Ines Consonni, Thor Larholm, Charles Evain, Lucas Cornexl have been elected and the treasurer will be Johannes Heinrich, according to the release.
The meeting also discussed the “Challenges of Europe”
;, in a debate with the participation of former MEP and candidate for President of the Republic in 2020, Ana Gomes, and MEPs Damian Boeselager (Volt) and Francisco Guerreiro, who in 2020 got out of the People-Animals-Nature (PAN).
Volt Portugal also announced the future affiliation of Francisco Guerreiro citing the MEP’s statements in the communiqué: “My approach to the Volt is natural because this is an ecological and pro-European movement that fights populism and the most extreme ideologies in the European Union” .
“Regardless of my political and professional future, the first day after the end of my term, I will officially join Volt Portugal, assuring myself that until then I will respect the program for which I was elected, respecting the political priorities that I have set myself. These priorities converge to a large extent with the vision of the Volt ”, we read.
Volt Europe is a federalist and pan-European party that emerged internationally as a movement in March 2017, as a reaction to “Brexit”, initiated by a collective of students in the United States.
Andrea Venzon is the founder of this movement, which is already a political party in several European countries, namely in Portugal, Germany, Bulgaria, Belgium, Spain, the Netherlands, Italy, Austria, Luxembourg, Denmark, France, the United Kingdom or Sweden.
The movement, which emerged in Portugal on 28 December 2017 and made official as a political party by the Constitutional Court in June 2020, has an MEP in the European Parliament, Damian Boeselager, elected by Volt Germany in the May 2019 elections.
