The NGO Zero Waste calls for a circular economy strategy
Brussels, 2 November 2020- The Non-Governmental Organization 'Zero Waste Europe' promoted a petition to call on the European Commission (EC) to propose a new strategy for the management of residual waste that prioritises material recovery and biological treatment over energy recovery, in line with the new circular economy vision and the present climate emergency.
Several MEPs signed this letter, including Francisco Guerreiro (Greens/EFA).
In the letter, the NGO states that “it is not realistic to expect a circular economy model to thrive and be widely adopted when it keeps being undermined by incentives to very same practices it is meant to eradicate.”
