Plenary session: Revision of the guidelines for trans-European energy infrastructure
Revision of the guidelines for trans-European energy infrastructure (B9-0122/2020)
I voted in favour of this revision because the current European Union rules for choosing infrastructure projects are not consistent with the current objectives of European policies. They continue to channel public money towards large and unnecessary projects that include fossil fuels when the European Union should be investing in energy efficiency and renewable energy projects.
The EU should at least pause these projects until the rules are rewritten according to the global climate crisis. Transitional measures should be put in place to ensure that funding is channeled to projects compatible with climate targets and the European Green Deal.
