International road passenger transport services by coach and bus in the border regions: cabotage operations between Italy and Switzerland (A9-0007/2020 - Markus Ferber)
I voted in favour of this report because I believe that the agreement between Switzerland and Italy, which authorizes cabotage operations while providing international road passenger transport services by coach and bus in border regions between the two countries, will lead to higher social or environmental standards.
This report comes from Italy's request for an authorization, in 2018, to negotiate and conclude an agreement with Switzerland authorizing operations as mentioned above. In the same year, Switzerland informed the Commission that it was interested in such an agreement.
Commitments such as those sought by Italy are the exclusive competence of the EU. However, the Union can empower Member States to act in areas where it has exclusive competence - and this is what this report aims to materialize/grant.
