Implementation of the common commercial policy – annual report 2018 (A9-0160/2020 - Jörgen Warborn)
I voted in favour of this report because it underlined the importance of the much needed reformulation of current procedures regarding the trade agreement between the European Union and the countries that constitute MERCOSUR.
Despite the explicit agreement determining the creation of new opportunities for European farmers and food producers, granting them unprecedented access to the Mercosur countries, it is essential to reopen the respective negotiations with the scope of proceeding with the incorporation in full of the assumptions related to the European Green Deal, for instance, eliminating any protection to investments made in the scope of the fossil fuel sector, as well as striving to combat illegal financial flows and tax evasion on the part corporations and multinationals, set legally binding rules that guarantee access to justice for victims of human rights violations and ensure there is no recourse to child labour.
