Plenary Session: Competition policy
Competition policy - annual report 2019 (A9-0022/2020 - Stéphanie Yon-Courtin)
I voted in favour of the first annual report on competition policy for this mandate, which includes a wide range of requests to the Commission to review European competition rules, including, for the first time, a chapter to ensure that competition rules will support and contribute to Green Deal goals. The report was also updated with a series of amendments related to the COVID-19 crisis and the Commission's guidelines for state aid.
The main points of the report, in addition to the Green Deal chapter, are calls for the creation of a European consumer protection authority, strengthening of language in the rules on state aid and tax avoidance and for the investigation of possible concentrations of owners in some Member States’ banking and financial asset management firms sectors.
