Plenary Session: Civil liability regime for artificial intelligence
Civil liability regime for artificial intelligence (A9-0178/2020 - Axel Voss)
I voted in favour of this report because it emphasized, through recommendations, the relevance of establishing a civil liability regime in the field of artificial intelligence.
This area has an increasingly strategic relevance, with inescapable ethical, legal, social and economic repercussions, and it is essential to complement the current legislation, in order to enhance the protection of citizens' rights in the face of tremendous technological developments, while keeping the evolution of innovation indexes.
Therefore, bases should be developed that establish the dictates of civil liability in this area, in order to respond to issues that have already been raised and discussed in other geographical areas of the world, such as the flagrant example of accidents involving autonomously driven vehicles, urging to establish, among other elements, who is responsible for the damages caused by an artificial intelligence product, which are the reimbursement mechanisms and which artificial intelligence products are covered by the explicit regime.
