PAN joins Japan and South Korea delegations in the European Parliament
Brussels, 17 July 2019- The MEP Francisco Guerreiro (PAN) was indicated today for the Japan and South Korea delegations in the European Parliament. Francisco Guerreiro is part of the Japan delegation as a full member and is a substitute in the South Korea one.
These delegations arise from a logic of international relations and it is through them that the European Union (EU) establishes bilateral relations with other countries outside the EU, through the European Parliament.
The appointment of members of delegations is made by political groups: in this case, Francisco Guerreiro was nominated by the European Greens, his political family.
Following the values of the PAN, aligned with those of the European Greens, MEP Francisco Guerreiro wishes to “pressure and develop strategies with a special focus on the environment and sustainability”.
Therefore, in relation to Japan, it is important to continue the fight against nuclear, while evaluating the containment of leakages at the Fukushima Nuclear Power Station – the protagonist of a serious nuclear accident in 2011 –, but it is also necessary to stop the reintroduction of commercial whaling, as well as the growing tension in the Yellow Sea with China and other Southeast Asian countries.
As for the South Korea delegation, the main imperative is to monitor the process of nuclear tension in the Korean Peninsulta and the relevance that this assumes in the stability of the region.
