PAN joins FAO alliance against hunger and malnutrition in the European Parliament
Brussels, 21 April 2020 - At the invitation of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), MEP Francisco Guerreiro (PAN) joined the alliance against hunger and malnutrition.
One of the goals of this alliance is to guide European public policies and those of the Member States of the European Union to combat, in a systematic and structured way, hunger, malnutrition and poverty, without losing the focus on international cooperation.
The request was also motivated by the commissions on which PAN is present in the European Parliament, in this case, because the MEP is the first vice-chairman of the Committee on Agriculture and a full member on the Committee on Fisheries and the Committee on Budgets.
“The fight against food waste must be one of the central focuses of this alliance, since many of the resources we need to fight hunger and malnutrition already exist, but are wasted, due to the obsolete model of consumption and distribution of goods,” says Francisco Guerreiro.
FAO's most recent work focuses on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on agricultural systems and agriculture.
This alliance in the European Parliament is made up of 29 MEPs, all from different political families and present in different committees.
