MEPs call on Von der Leyen to withdraw CAP proposal
Brussels, 27 October 2020- After the disappointing CAP vote last week, several MEPs decided to send a letter to the President of the European Commission (EC), Ursula Von der Leyen, asking her to withdraw the proposal on the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). Francisco Guerreiro (Greens/EFA) was one of the MEPs who signed this letter.
“There is a growing disbelief, especially among young people, regarding the Parliament’s position, but also regarding the Commission’s inaction. How can we define fighting climate change as a priority, present an ambitious Green Deal and then exclude agricultural policies from any substantial obligations?”, questions Guerreiro.
The MEPs ask the President of the EC to act. “Just as the Commission has the right to make proposals, it has the right to withdraw them. We ask you to make use of this right. There are ample reasons to do so.”
