MEPs call for answers in the face of Human Rights violation in Saudi Arabia
Brussels, 13 October 2020 – Greens/EFA MEP Francisco Guerreiro signed a letter calling on the President of the European Commission and the President of the European Council to downgrade their level of diplomatic and institutional participation in the upcoming G20 summit, to be held in Saudi Arabia on 21 and 22 November.
“The EU must not glorify the Saudi government in the G20 Leaders’ Summit as long as the country’s authorities continue to violate a variety of the most basic human rights, including the right to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly and the right to liberty and security of person, as well as the right to freedom from torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment and the right to life”, signatories say.
