Plenary Session: Objection to the possibility of introducing genetically modified maize into the EU III
Brussels, 17 december 2020 - See below what was discussed in this plenary session (14 to 17 december 2020) and how the MEP Francisco Guerreiro (Greens/EFA) voted.
Objection pursuant to Rule 112(2) and (3): Genetically modified maize MIR604 (SYN-IR6Ø4-5) (B9-0414/2020)
I voted in favor of this objection to the import of the aforementioned genetically modified organism (GMO) due to the risks associated with its consumption and cultivation. For example, because they are more resistant to herbicides and other chemicals, GMO plantations have also led to the development of weeds with similar resistance. This situation results in the greater need for the use of chemicals, putting human and animal health and the environment at risk.
